Sundae + Mr. Goessl
Cheek to Cheek
This debut album from the celebrated Seattle duo is a collection of tunes from the 1930's varying from upbeat popular showtunes (Just One of Those Things) to lazy ragtime (Ain't Misbehavin') and even torchy ballads such as Billy Strayhorn's Lush Life.
Mr. Goessl's guitar (the Epiphone Swingster) is a cross between the "Joe Pass" and the "Chet Atkins" signature guitar …and when he tells you those two icons just happen to be his favorite guitarists the only testament you'll need is Cheek to Cheek.
Sundae has been studying under the greats since 2004. You know, the greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Blossom Dearie and Anita O'Day (to name a few). All of which can be heard in glimpses during this engaging and dynamic album.
The duo wanted to have an album that represented themselves in a genuine and honest way, while staying true to the old time traditions. The entire album was recorded live! The final track gives a tip-of-the-hat to Les Paul and Mary Ford with an additional harmony track by Sundae on an especially bubbly version of "Cheek to Cheek".
