Ada Loveless was formed in 2008 after DJ Alex at Seattle radio station KEXP requested a collaboration between Obelus (Jason Goessl and Adam Pessl), ndCv (Andy Seaver), and Caitlin Sherman (Slow Skate, Lusine) to feature during a special Decibel Festival themed electronic edition of the local music show, Audio Oasis. The group wrote four songs together and performed them live on the air in September 2008. Ada Loveless spent the next two years playing shows and recording their debut album Spades and Armor.
The band’s name is borrowed from Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, the first credited computer programmer who also is quoted: “the engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of complexity or extent.”
