The Pornadoes were formed in July 2011, when Minnesotan Tom "Ramshaft" Zgonc and Wisconsinites Jason "Mr. Goessl" Goessl and Ethan "Chet Gracenote" Sobotta (now residents of Seattle) decided to form a band paying respect to their midwest homeland. Goessl, the curator and musical director of the project, formed the group just to have fun, and who better to have fun with than a couple of accomplished, professional musicians born and raised in the Midwest? They collectively recorded two albums of virtuosic surf and western swing instrumentals, "Now Serving..." (2012) and "The Pornadoes...In Space" (2013), and played locally and regionally while balancing time with numerous other artistic commitments.
In early 2014, the Pornadoes were hired to accompany a live burlesque event produced by Seattle burlesque impressarios Lily Verlaine & Jasper McCann. McCann, a fellow midwesterner, singer, and lover of mid-century musical style since childhood, immediately jelled with the band. After a series of sit-in gigs, one-offs, and a fateful night at the Sloop Tavern with Mr. Goessl, McCann joined the group in mid-2015 as its first full-time lead singer and lyricist.
The band is currently building a new catalogue of original work, inspired by the "four corners of the great American musical baseball diamond": jazz, surf, rockabilly, and country. Committed to bringing the public the finest in "new-fangled old-fashioned music", expect to see and hear lots more from The Pornadoes in late 2016 and early 2017.
Jason plays exclusively through Quimper Electronic System's Retrofier amp.
